VEIR is a Woburn, Massachusetts-based superconducting power solutions company founded in 2019, commercializing high-temperature superconducting (HTS) technology for electricity transmission at industrial scale. At its core, VEIR has developed a proprietary passive evaporative cryogenic cooling system that delivers 20 times the cooling power per kilogram of nitrogen flow compared to mechanical subcooling - a breakthrough that makes superconducting power lines practical and cost-effective to deploy. The result is a platform of low- and medium-voltage superconducting systems capable of carrying 5-10x the power density of conventional copper conductors, with up to 7x fewer resistive losses, 25x less copper material, and up to 90% less installation labor than legacy approaches. VEIR's overhead AC product line supports transmission capacities up to 400 megawatts at voltages up to 69 kilovolts.

Initially focused on grid transmission infrastructure, VEIR has strategically pivoted to serve the rapidly growing AI data center market, where power density and speed-to-energization are existential concerns. The company demonstrated its STAR (Superconducting Transmission And Reliability) platform in a live 3-megawatt outdoor demo, proving superconducting power delivery for AI data center campuses. Their systems enable hyperscalers, chip developers, data center owners and operators, and OEMs to energize facilities 3-6 months faster than legacy infrastructure while achieving 99.99% uptime. This positions VEIR's technology not just as an incremental upgrade, but as a category-defining platform that redefines the economics of high-density compute infrastructure.

For the US energy supply chain, VEIR represents a critical innovation layer in transmission and power delivery equipment. As AI workloads drive unprecedented electricity demand and the grid struggles to accommodate new loads, VEIR's superconducting platform offers a path to deploying dramatically more capacity through existing corridors and right-of-ways. Backed by a constellation of leading climate and infrastructure investors - including Microsoft's Climate Innovation Fund, Breakthrough Energy Ventures, National Grid Partners, and Munich Re Ventures - VEIR is positioned to become a foundational supplier of next-generation transmission equipment, reducing America's dependence on copper-intensive legacy infrastructure and accelerating the buildout of both AI data centers and a cleaner, more resilient electric grid.
