USA Rare Earth (Nasdaq: USAR) is building what it describes as the world's first fully integrated rare earth value chain outside of China - spanning mining, processing and separation, metals and alloy production, and permanent magnet manufacturing. The company's cornerstone asset is the Round Top Mountain heavy rare earth element (HREE) deposit in Sierra Blanca (Hudspeth County), Texas, which hosts 15 of the 17 rare earth elements, including all of the critical heavy rare earths - dysprosium, terbium, and yttrium - essential for high-temperature permanent magnets used in defense and industrial applications. USAR also operates a 310,000 sq. ft. sintered NdFeB permanent magnet manufacturing facility in Stillwater, Oklahoma (its Innovation Lab commissioned in January 2025), an R&D processing facility in Wheat Ridge, Colorado, and wholly-owned subsidiary Less Common Metals (LCM) in Cheshire, UK - the only commercial non-Chinese rare earth metal-making and strip casting operation for permanent magnets outside of China.

USAR's technology platform is anchored in proprietary hydrometallurgical and solvent extraction (SX) processes optimized for the unique mineralogy of the Round Top deposit, enabling separation of both heavy and light rare earth oxides. Their Stillwater magnet facility is commissioning production Line 1a with 1,200-metric-ton annual capacity, targeting 10,000 metric tons at full scale. In June 2026, USAR commissioned a hydrometallurgical demonstration facility targeting heavy rare earth oxide production - positioning the company as one of very few entities outside China capable of producing separated heavy rare earth oxides such as dysprosium and terbium. The company has also announced a new metal and magnet manufacturing facility in Blacksburg, South Carolina expected to create ~490 high-skill jobs, and is expanding into France.

USA Rare Earth is of enormous strategic significance to the US energy and defense supply chain. By January 2027, Chinese-origin rare earth magnets will be banned from US weapons systems, creating an urgent need for a domestic source at scale. USAR's fully integrated "mine-to-magnet" platform is designed precisely to fill that gap - across defense systems, electric vehicles, wind turbines, robotics, medical devices, and semiconductors. The company has secured major federal backing: the U.S. Department of Commerce issued a Letter of Intent for $1.6 billion in CHIPS and Science Act funding (with $277M in direct grants and up to $1.3B in senior secured loan capacity now finalized), and the DOE selected USAR for up to $19.3 million under its Critical Materials Innovation Program. In April 2026, USAR announced a landmark agreement to acquire Serra Verde Group (a Brazilian rare earth producer) for ~$2.8 billion, cementing its position as a global rare earth leader.
