Solid Power, Inc. (NASDAQ: SLDP) is a Louisville, Colorado-based developer of next-generation all-solid-state battery (ASSB) cells for electric vehicles and mobile power markets. The company's core innovation is its proprietary sulfide-based solid electrolyte, which replaces the flammable liquid or gel electrolytes used in conventional lithium-ion batteries with a solid material. This enables batteries that are substantially safer (no thermal runaway risk), more energy-dense, and potentially lower in cost. Solid Power offers three primary cell architectures: a Silicon EV Cell (targeting 390 Wh/kg / 930 Wh/L), a Lithium Metal EV Cell (targeting 440 Wh/kg), and a Conversion Reaction Cell (targeting up to 560 Wh/kg) - all designed to be compatible with existing lithium-ion roll-to-roll manufacturing infrastructure, dramatically reducing the capital expenditure barrier to adoption.

Solid Power operates a dual business model: developing and licensing ASSB cell technology to OEM partners such as BMW and Ford, and independently selling sulfide solid electrolyte materials to other battery manufacturers also pursuing solid-state chemistries. In October 2021, the company added SK On (formerly SK Innovation) as a third manufacturing partner, tasked with producing automotive-scale ASSB cells using Solid Power's electrolyte and cell designs. The company went public in December 2021 via a SPAC merger with Decarbonization Plus Acquisition Corporation III (DCRC), listing on the Nasdaq Global Select Market under the ticker "SLDP." With 11 total funding rounds and backing from major industrial and strategic investors, Solid Power is one of the most well-capitalized pure-play solid-state battery developers in the United States.

Solid Power is highly significant to the US energy supply chain and EV ecosystem. As automakers race to bring longer-range, lower-cost, and safer EVs to market, solid-state batteries are considered the pivotal next-generation technology. Solid Power's approach - designing for compatibility with existing Li-ion manufacturing processes - positions it as a practical bridge from today's battery industry infrastructure to tomorrow's solid-state future. The company's deep partnerships with global Tier 1 automakers and battery manufacturers, its US-based R&D and manufacturing presence in Colorado, and its DOE grant funding make it a key node in domestic battery supply chain development, reducing reliance on foreign cell technology and advancing US competitiveness in energy storage.

Funding

Solid Power went public via SPAC merger with DCRC in December 2021, raising proceeds at IPO. Prior to going public, it closed a $130M Series B in May 2021 led by BMW and Ford (with participation from SK Innovation, Volta Energy Technologies, and others). Most recently, in January 2026, the company priced a $130 million registered direct offering (Post-IPO Equity). In total, Solid Power has completed 11 funding rounds including multiple Post-IPO Equity raises and DOE/ARPA-E grants. Total funding is not publicly disclosed in aggregate but is estimated to exceed $400M including SPAC proceeds, pre-IPO rounds, and post-IPO equity raises.
