Prometheus Fuels is a Santa Cruz, CA-based deep-tech company founded in 2019 that has developed a revolutionary approach to producing zero-net-carbon liquid fuels directly from air and sunlight. Prometheus' single integrated electrochemical pathway bypasses all of these, producing 99.99%-pure methanol (independently verified) and kerosene-range hydrocarbons (C8-C19) that can meet aviation fuel standards. Their Titan Forge Alpha pilot plant at their Santa Cruz HQ has been operating continuously for over four years, producing e-fuels from off-grid solar at a capacity of ~16,000 gallons/year, with a new 200-ton/year modular DAC system scaling production. The company has secured a landmark commercial offtake contract with American Airlines for 10 million gallons of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), validating commercial demand.

Prometheus sits at a critical intersection of the US energy supply chain: it addresses both the intermittency problem of renewables (via ultra-long-duration energy storage in liquid form) and the decarbonization challenge of hard-to-electrify sectors - aviation, maritime shipping, defense logistics, and heavy transport.
