Oklo
Oklo Inc. is a publicly traded advanced fission company based in Santa Clara, California, that designs and deploys compact fast reactors to provide clean, reliable, and affordable energy. The company's flagship product is the Aurora Powerhouse, a 75 MWe sodium-cooled fast reactor (compact fast reactor) modeled after the Experimental Breeder Reactor II (EBR-II). The Aurora uses metallic HALEU (High-Assay Low-Enriched Uranium) fuel and features inherent passive safety - its physics-based negative reactivity feedback coefficients automatically reduce power during temperature excursions without requiring any operator intervention or active safety systems. Notably, Oklo's design can use recycled nuclear waste as fuel, directly addressing the US's nuclear waste challenge while reducing dependence on fresh uranium supply chains. Target markets include AI data centers, remote communities, industrial sites, and military bases.
Beyond power generation, Oklo operates a growing suite of business lines. The company is building a first-of-its-kind fuel recycling facility in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, and acquired radioisotopes company Atomic Alchemy in March 2025 to produce medical and industrial radioisotopes via its nuclear fuel recycling process. Oklo has been selected by the Department of Energy for its Reactor Pilot Program to fast-track advanced nuclear deployment at Idaho National Laboratory, with first Aurora commercial operations targeted for 2028. The company has also been selected by the DOE for the Surplus Plutonium Utilization Program, pairing plutonium conversion with a partnership with newcleo that could bring up to $2 billion in project capital.
Oklo's significance to the US energy supply chain cannot be overstated. With an approximately 15 GW order book - including agreements with Meta, Switch, Diamondback Energy, and Wyoming Hyperscale - the company is at the forefront of powering the AI data center boom and domestic industrial energy demand with zero-carbon baseload nuclear power. Its vertically integrated approach - building reactors, recycling fuel, and producing radioisotopes - reduces US reliance on foreign fuel and waste disposal infrastructure. Trading on the NYSE under ticker OKLO, the company went public in May 2024 via a SPAC merger with AltC Acquisition Corp, bringing significant Silicon Valley credibility and capital to the advanced nuclear sector.
Funding
Went public May 10, 2024 via SPAC merger with AltC Acquisition Corp (founded by Sam Altman), receiving $306 million in gross proceeds at an $850 million valuation.
