NOVONIX Limited (NASDAQ: NVX, ASX: NVX) is a Chattanooga, Tennessee-based battery materials company and one of North America's most advanced producers of synthetic graphite anode material for lithium-ion batteries. The company is developing its Riverside facility to become the first large-scale synthetic graphite production site in North America, with a planned 20,000 tonnes per annum (tpa) capacity. NOVONIX uses petroleum coke - a byproduct of U.S. oil refining - as feedstock, ensuring a stable and fully domestic raw material supply chain while simultaneously reducing industrial waste. Its proprietary furnace technology is designed to deliver superior performance and efficiency compared to traditional graphitization methods used in China.

NOVONIX's technology produces battery-grade synthetic graphite that offers superior cycle life and charge-rate performance compared to natural graphite alternatives. Because the process requires no mining, it also presents a cleaner, lower-impact production pathway. The company's Riverside facility has its full 20,000 tpa capacity allocated under long-term supply agreements with major battery manufacturers Panasonic Energy and PowerCo (Volkswagen's battery subsidiary), underscoring strong commercial validation. NOVONIX recently delivered a mass production qualification ("C-sample") of synthetic graphite anode material to Panasonic, a key milestone on the path to full commercialization.

NOVONIX is a critical node in the U.S. energy supply chain, directly addressing America's near-total dependence on Chinese-sourced graphite - the single largest component by mass in every lithium-ion battery. The U.S. government has recognized NOVONIX's strategic importance by certifying $103 million in Section 48C Advanced Energy Project tax credits for its Riverside facility, and the U.S. Department of Commerce has imposed 160%+ duties on Chinese battery-grade graphite imports, dramatically improving the competitive position of domestic producers like NOVONIX. The company divested its non-core Battery Technology Solutions business in April 2026 to sharpen its focus entirely on synthetic graphite production.
