Nectar (nectarclimate.com) is a San Francisco-based AI energy management platform founded in 2022 by MIT alumni Allen Wang and Katherine He. The company automates utility data collection and analysis for facility managers, energy teams, and sustainability/ESG leaders across industries including manufacturing, food and beverage, real estate, telecom, and technology. Nectar works like a "Plaid for utilities" - connecting directly to utility account portals via credential-based integrations to automatically download bills, parse line-item usage and cost data, and surface actionable insights without manual data entry. Its platform handles electricity, gas, and water data globally, and integrates with carbon accounting platforms and Energy Star Portfolio Manager.

Nectar's core technology uses in-house AI agents to deliver highly granular, accurate usage and cost data via its utility data API. Key features include automated bill audits, interest and tax charge analysis, rate and tariff optimization, facility benchmarking, GHG/Scope 1 & 2 emissions reporting, and automated bill payments. The platform reduces what once took sustainability teams thousands of hours per year into roughly 10 minutes of setup, providing a full audit trail for compliance with emerging regulations such as the SEC climate disclosure rules and the EU's CSRD - which together require up to 57,000 companies to disclose and audit their carbon emissions. Customers include Fortune 500 companies such as Vontier and Swire Coca-Cola, as well as energy brokers like Stanwich Energy.

Nectar sits at a critical juncture in the US energy supply chain, providing the data infrastructure layer that enables organizations to actually understand and act on their energy consumption. As the clean energy transition accelerates and regulatory pressure mounts, the ability to collect accurate, auditable utility data at scale becomes foundational - not just for cost optimization, but for emissions accounting, grid-demand management, and energy procurement strategy. By eliminating the manual, error-prone workflows that have long hampered corporate energy and sustainability teams, Nectar helps unlock the full value of cleaner, cheaper energy sources and positions companies to respond rapidly to market-rate changes and compliance requirements.
