Crusoe Energy Systems (now widely branded as simply "Crusoe") is a Denver, Colorado-based energy and computing infrastructure company founded in 2018 by Chase Lochmiller and Cully Cavness. The company originally pioneered "Digital Flare Mitigation®" - deploying modular, containerized data centers directly at oil and gas well sites to capture flared and stranded natural gas that would otherwise be burned off into the atmosphere and waste it on useful compute work such as Bitcoin mining and cloud computing. This innovative approach simultaneously reduced methane/CO₂ emissions and created economic value from an otherwise wasted resource, addressing a critical pain point in the US oil and gas supply chain while dramatically lowering the carbon footprint of digital computation.

Crusoe has since evolved into a full-scale "AI Factory" company, designing, building, and operating purpose-built AI data centers powered by environmentally aligned energy sources including wind, solar, hydropower, geothermal, natural gas, and energy storage. Its proprietary Crusoe Cloud platform offers high-performance NVIDIA and AMD GPU compute (including GB200, B200, H200, H100, MI300X, and MI355X) with claimed cost advantages up to 81% over hyperscalers, purpose-optimized for AI training, inference, and data preparation. The company has also developed proprietary technology including its MemoryAlloy inference engine for ultra-low latency AI workloads, and is building gigawatt-scale campuses - most notably a 900 MW AI factory campus in Abilene, Texas, in partnership with Microsoft.

Crusoe is increasingly significant to the US energy supply chain because it represents a systems-integration model that solves two problems at once: providing the massive, reliable, low-carbon power that AI infrastructure demands, while monetizing stranded or wasted energy assets across the country. The company's contracted AI infrastructure capacity has now approached 5 gigawatts, and it has formed landmark partnerships with Blue Owl Capital ($3.4B+ joint venture), Brookfield ($750M credit facility), Microsoft, GE Vernova, Form Energy, and Redwood Materials - positioning it as one of the most consequential private infrastructure builders in the US AI and energy nexus.
