Charge Robotics
Charge Robotics is a San Francisco Bay Area-based robotics company building autonomous systems that automate the most labor-intensive parts of utility-scale solar farm construction. As solar has become the cheapest form of power generation in many regions, the primary bottleneck to deployment has shifted from cost to construction capacity - specifically, the shortage of specialized labor needed to install panels at scale. Charge Robotics directly addresses this constraint by deploying large-scale robots that can perform tasks like panel placement and racking, dramatically reducing the human labor required on a job site and enabling construction crews to build faster and more efficiently.
Founded by MIT engineers and backed by top Silicon Valley investors, the company's technology is designed to slot into existing solar construction workflows, allowing contractors to scale output without proportionally scaling headcount. The robots are built to handle the repetitive, physically demanding work of utility-scale installations, making solar construction cheaper, faster, and safer. As of recent updates, the company has been deploying its first commercial systems in the field and actively hiring across engineering roles to scale production.
Charge Robotics is strategically significant to the US energy supply chain at a critical moment: federal policy (IRA, ITC) has unleashed massive demand for new solar capacity, but labor shortages threaten to bottleneck deployment. By automating construction, Charge Robotics helps unlock the potential to build solar farms at the pace and scale required to meet national clean energy goals, making it a key enabler in the solar equipment and construction layer of the domestic energy supply chain.
